The hemophilia care program in the state was initiated in 2009 with financial support from the state government for the purchase of AHF. Initially 08 hemophilia treatment centres (HTC) were started today are 26 centres across the state (in all major medical colleges, institutions and district hospitals) providing free AHF to approximately 4200 persons with hemophilia (PwH). From 2015 onwards the program has been supported with funds from NHM, Government of India.
The department of hematology, SGPGIMS Lucknow is the state nodal center for implementation of hemophilia care program in the state. The AHF is procured and supplied to 26 HTCs for on demand therapy of bleeding episodes, surgery in PwH with and without inhibitors. Prophylaxsis program has also been in state for hemophilia B patients with extended half-life (EHL) factor IX and Emcixizumab (non-factor base therapy) for PwH with inhibitors.
To strengthen the hemophilia care services in the state a project “Strategies towards comprehensive hemophilia care services in Uttar Pradesh” was initiated in 2020 funded by NHM. The objectives of this project are:
In the near future it is planned to increase the number of HTCs in the state subject to availability of manpower and additional funds. It’s hoped that with support of all the stakeholders the quality of hemophilia care services will keep improving in the state.
